DIY : Green Zebra Baby Booties!

It’s winter time and our little loved ones are the most affected by this cold.

Today, you’ll discover how to make green zebra booties for your little baby!

Materials :

  •  3,5 mm hook,
  • yarn needle,
  • stitch marker,
  • yarn (in my case two shades of green, gauge 18.0 sts = 4 inches),
  • 4 buttons.

Sizes :

  • 0 – 3 months : 9 cm,
  • 3 – 6 months – 10 cm,
  • 6 – 9 months – 12 cm

Stitches : 

  • Ch – chain
  • Ss – slip stitch
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Sc2tog – join two single crochet together
  • (H)Dc2tog – join two (half) double crochet together

C1 : Color 1, in my case it’s dark green.

C2: Color 2, in my case, it’s light green

C1 – color 1; in my case dark green,  C2 – color 2; in my case light green

Use string of yarn and crochet with 3,5 mm hook (E/4).

Tutorial for three sizes; 0-3 months (3-6 months, 6-9 months)

Step 1 : Sole

Row 1 (C1): You will start in the second chain with your hook.

Make 2 hdc into the same.

Hdc 8 (9, 11). Make 6 hdc into the last chain from the hook, now start on the other side. Hdc 8 (9, 11). Make 2 hdc into the last one. = 26 (28, 32) sts.

Row 2 (C1): Now make 2 sc into next 2. Sc 5 (6, 8).

Hdc into next 3. Make 2 dc into next 6. Hdc 3. Sc into next 5 (6, 8).

Now make 2 sc into last 2 stitches. = 36 (38, 42) sts.

Row 3 (C1): Work sc into next 2. Make 2 hdc next 3. Hdc 5 (6, 8). Dc 3. Now repeat (2 dc, dc) six times. Dc 3. Hdc 5 (6, 8). Now make 2 hdc into last 3.= 48 (50,54) sts.

All you have to do now is make sc into next two. This two stitches put you into the middle of the heel again.

Make two :)

Start on the upper part of the shoe.

Little tip : Always make the chain and the first stitch in the row into the same stitch!
Chain in the beginning of the round and ss at the end of the round does NOT count as a stitch. Also be careful what is the last stitch from the previous round and what ss when you are finishing the round.

Row 4 (C1): Now time to work in back loops only! Chain 1. Sc 48 (50,54). Ss. = 48 (50,54) sts.

Row 5 (C2):  Then Chain 1. Sc 48 (50,54). Ss. = 48 (50,54) sts.

Row 6 (C1): Chain 1. Sc 48 (50,54). Ss. = 48 (50,54) sts.

Row 7 (C2): Now Chain 1. Sc 48 (50,54). Ss. = 48 (50,54) sts.

Row 8 (C1): Chain 1. Sc 14 (15, 17). Repeat ( Sc2tog,  Sc1) 7 times. Sc 13 (14, 16). Ss. = 41 (43, 47) sts.

Row 9 (C2): Chain 1. Sc 13 (14, 16). Repeat (Sc2tog, sc 1) 5 times. Sc 13 (14, 16).  Ss. = 36 (38, 42) sts.

Row 10 (C1): Chain 1. Sc 1. Sc2tog. Sc 9 (10, 12).  Repeat hdc2tog two times. Repeat dc2tog two times. Repeat hdc2tog two times. Sc 9 (10, 12).  Sc2tog. Sc 1. Ss. = 28 (30, 34) sts.

Row 11 (C2): Chain1. Sc 1. Sc2tog. Sc 9 (10, 12). Repeat dc2tog two times. Sc 9 (10, 12). Sc2tog. Sc 1. Ss. THEN Fasten off.= 24 (26, 30) sts.

Now start in the 7th stitch on the left of the heel for the left shoe and in the 7th stitch on the right of the heel for the right shoe.

Row 12 (C1): Chain 1 and sc into the same stitch. Sc 23 (25, 29). Chain 6. Turn.

Row 13 (C1): Start in the 3th chain from the hook. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Turn. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

Row 14 (C2). Chain 2. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Turn. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

Row 15 (C1). Chain 2. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Turn. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

Row 16 (C2). Chain 2. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Turn. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

Row 17 (C1). Chain 2. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Turn. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

Row 18 (C2). Chain 2. Hdc 27 (29, 33). Fasten off. = 27 (29, 33) sts.

The next step is to take the darker shade of your yarn and crochet it around the upper part of the shoe.

To finish, place two buttons on each booty.
