Sleep plays a vital role in the proper functioning of our body. It helps us regain strength after strenuous efforts or after a long day, sleep is also necessary for brain development and for certain metabolic functions. To have a good sleep hygiene, we must avoid bad habits and adopt the good ones. Here is a list of bad habits to avoid before going to bed.
Not sleeping at the same time every night: Try to get to bed at the same time every night and close your eyes while looking for sleep. Your brain will adapt to your schedules.
Put any electronic devices away: Do not keep any electronic devices near your bed. Looking at your smartphone in bed encourages trouble and interrupts your sleep cycle. Electronic devices emit artificial light which will disturb sleep.
Sleeping on a bad mattress: A good quality mattress will allow you to improve your sleep and enjoy your moments of relaxation. Do not hesitate to invest in a good quality mattress.
Eating before going to bed: Avoid eating 2 to 3 hours before going to bed. Sleeping with a full stomach does not allow your digestive system to operate and process all the food you have consumed. Eating a lot before sleep can cause a feeling of heaviness, acid reflux or heartburn that leads to sleep disturbances.
Work or study in bed: Your bed should not be used as an office. You must complete your work at least 2 hours before going to sleep. If you are also used to doing physical activities in the evening, it is best to stop them at least 3 hours before going to bed.
