3. Order in-store

Order in-store with our friendly team and we’ll let you know as soon as they’re ready to be picked up. You’ll need to bring your child’s health card as well.

The importance of eye exams

• Comprehensive eye exams, as opposed to simple eye-chart tests or vision screenings, can assess a child's entire visual system and help identify areas of concern and address them early on.

• The Canadian Association of Optometrists reports that 80% of classroom learning is visual. Vision problems can cause kids to learn at a slower rate, develop a negative self-image, and experience frustration with learning.

• Babies should have their first eye exam between 6 and 9 months of age. Children should have at least one eye exam between the ages of 2 and 5 years, then annually between the ages of 6 and 18 years.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to eliminate poor vision and ensure everyone has access to the eyewear they need to see the amazing things in their lives. We want to ensure that kids can learn, grow, and live to their full potential – and that begins with being able to see the world around them clearly and correctly.

Free Glasses for Kids: FAQs

In order to get a pair of free kids’ glasses:

• Children must be age 10 or under and have a valid Canadian health card

• Visit your local Clearly store – the offer cannot be redeemed online

• Present your child’s recent prescription, written within 1 year

• Present your child’s health card

• You must pick up the glasses from your local store

The program applies to:

• Single vision Durable Air Lenses (1.59 clear lenses with anti-reflective coating) valued up to $29.

If the price of the glasses exceeds these allotments, you will be required to pay the additional cost.

Comprehensive eye exams are the only way to assess a child’s entire visual system and identify areas of concern.

According to the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), nearly 25% of children have vision problems. These range from somewhat common issues such as astigmatism and myopia to serious conditions like amblyopia (loss of vision in one or both eyes) and retinoblastoma (childhood cancer of the eye).

Regular children’s eye exams are crucial in identifying potential vision issues and health concerns at a vital stage in the child’s development. In instances where treatment or correction is needed, it allows parents to address the issue early on, improving their child’s overall health and making sure they’re able to learn and engage with the world to their full potential.

The CAO recommends:

• Babies should have their first eye exam between 6 and 9 months of age.

• Children between the ages of 2 and 5 years should have at least one eye exam (though many professionals recommend an annual exam).

• Children between the ages of 6 and 18 years should have an eye exam each year.

At Clearly, all children’s eye exams are fully subsidized by provincial health coverage. Widely speaking, most children’s eye exams are at least partly covered. For details, consult your local provincial health website.

If your child doesn’t have a valid prescription that has been written in the last year, you can book an eye exam for your child with one of Clearly’s partner optometrists.

Yes. However, we’re passionate about eye health education and we want to make sure that parents and kids are keeping on schedule with regular children’s eye exams – which means you’ll still need to complete your assignment!

Please bring in a note from the doctor or proof of the exam that states your child won’t need any vision correction in their glasses.

Please note that the Free Glasses for Kids initiative covers the cost of clear, durable air lenses ($29 value), and so you’ll be required to pay the cost of upgrading to BlueReflect™ blue light lenses or sun lenses.
