DIY : Apple Pie Baked in an Apple
To make 5 Apple Pies you will need :
- 5 granny smith apples
- 1 lemon
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- refrigerated pie crust
- 2 tsp melted butter
- heart cookie cutter
Start by cutting off the top of each apple and discard.
Using a melon baller; scoop out the inside of each apple. Discarding the core , put filling in a separate bowl to be used for the apple pie filling. Be careful not to puncture the peel!
Then, squeeze lemon juice over all your apple pieces and after that mix the cinnamon and both sugars together with the scooped out apple.
Unroll your pie crust and slice into 1/4 inch strips for the lattice pattern. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out the shape
Cover the top of the apples with a lattice pattern. (5 Strips for each apple)
Brush melted butter onto the crust and sprinkle with sugar.
Place the apples in a baking pan. Add just enough water to cover the bottom of the pan.
Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
Voilà , your recipe is now ready , it would be better if you serve it with vanilla ice cream and a cold glass of milk.
