Make your baby feel comfortable by making them this adorable Puff blanket/bubble quilt! This blanket feels so comfy and is a perfect play mat for your little kid. To make one you will need the following:
1)16 different colors of scrap fabric
2) 1 yard cheap crappy fabric for the base of the puffs
3) 1 yard minky
4) 1 1/2 yard silky fabric for the ruffle
5) Some poly-fill
The first thing you want to do is cut out 6″x 6″ squares for your bubbles. Cut also squares out of your fabric and set as you wish (in the picture 11 are used on the long side and 6 on the short side) The next step is to cut 66 4.5″x 4.5″ squares out of your fabric.
Now for the puffs making part, put the smallest square on top of the larger one and pin the corners of the squares together as shown in the picture.
On each of the squares’ sides make 2 pleats and pin in place. pin also the sides so that the larger square sides match up with the smaller square’s sides. Apply this for all sides as shown in the picture.
Using 1/4″ seam sew around your square to secure your pleats. Your seem should cover the 3 sides of the square (leave one open for stuffing)
Now you can start the fun part, stuffing Yaaay! Stuff all the squares but make sure they are not FULLY stuffed!
When finished, arrange your puffs in the desired style, pin one of the edges together and then sew.
Once you have sewed 5 or 6 (depending on you) puffs together start placing them in rows until your entire top is completed!
Now your next task is to cut your minky to match the size of your bubble top. Then sew your ruffle to the edges of the minky.
Lay your puffs right side up and your minky and ruffle piece right side down on top.
Pin the minky and then sew. Turn you blanket right side out and hand stitch up the opening!
Congratulations you are all done!
